Target Audience

This activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, healthcare executives, dentists, psychologists, social workers, and mental health counselors engaged in the care of refugee patients with various disease states.


Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Identify and evaluate unique aspects of the provision of healthcare to refugees
  • Identify and describe disease processes prevalent in various refugee populations
  • Utilize tools and strategies for implementing culturally competent medical care to refugees
  • Employ strategies for improved provision for language services for refugees

Physician Continuing Medical Education

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and the Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers.  The Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

ACHE Qualified Education Credit

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is authorized to award 17 hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education credit (non-ACHE) for this program toward advancement, or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied towards ACHE Qualified Education credit should indicate their attendance when submitting an application to the American College of Healthcare Executives for advancement of recertification.


American Dental Association CERP

This continuing education activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the standards of the ADA Continuing Education Recognition Program (ADA CERP) through joint providership efforts between Postgraduate Institute for Medicine and the Society of Refugee Healthcare Providers.

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider.  ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education.  ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, or does it imply acceptance of the credit hours by boards of dentistry.

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine designates this activity for 17 continuing education credits.


Psychologist Continuing Education

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  PIM maintains responsibility for this program and its content.  Credit Designation:  This program offers 17 continuing education credits for psychologists.


Credit is pending for Social Workers and Mental Health Counselors.
